Now is a great time to go on a Ecotour in Charleston!
Spring is an awesome time for birders and birding, as many
birds are migrating to the dredge spoil islands to begin
their families! Brown Pelicans, Black Skimmers, Royal
Terns, Forster’s Terns, Oyster Catchers and many more
can be observed finding their mates and beginning their nests

.
Most people will never know the incredible beauty unless
they go on a boating tour in Charleston Harbor, the only
way to really get up close to islands like Crab Bank .
Crab Bank is an island that was created off of Shem Creek in
Mt. Pleasant by dumping the dredge spoil from years of dredging
in the Charleston Harbor. Man-made islands like these have
become ideal nesting sites for birds because they don’t have
natural predators like raccoons and minks that love to eat
the eggs. Thousands of birds colonize these islands every
year to create a birder’s paradise! These islands are now protected
sanctuaries where only water craft can get close. By going on a boating ecotour one can experience a part of Charleston that most visitors miss!
